A Personal Note:

To build a life in music, a crucial amount of investment is made by our families, our mentors and our teachers. For this very reason, a cornerstone of my work as a soloist, chamber musician and artistic director is my passion for teaching. I feel it is part of my responsibility as an artist to pass on what I have learned, and help to nurture the next generation of musicians, regardless of age. My approach to teaching emphasizes the need to build a musical voice that is equal parts technical brilliance, limitless expression, and resilience in mind and body. I look forward to guiding others on the path of individual exploration.

Masterclasses

In conjunction with so many of my solo engagements, I often have the opportunity to give masterclasses to students around the world. I love having the chance to work with young musicians, and have taught at institutions like Washington and Lee University, the University of Missouri, the University of Wisconsin system, Kenyon College, Grand View University, pianoSonoma festival, Lake George Music Festival, and Music in May Festival, as well as numerous pre-college institutions. Please write to me here if interested in scheduling a masterclass.

lectures

In addition to my work as a soloist, I write and speak publicly about musical topics, having most recently had my writings published in Strings Magazine.

Much of my educational speaking efforts are focused on preparing students for the realities of life after music school, and how to build a burgeoning career in the classical music industry. My lecture + workshop, “Persuasion, Self-Advocacy, Audience Connection: Tools for Taking Ownership of Your Artistry,” is focused on helping young musicians to build the necessary skills needed not only to survive, but to thrive in the modern classical music landscape.

Topics covered:

  • The importance of being able to speak about your work

  • Ownership over your career

  • “Going around” obstacles

  • Centering your music: establishing your ethos

Discussion Topics:

  • “Survival of the friendliest”

  • Banishing a scarcity mindset
